Qāri' Kumayl Alloo is a Tanzanian-American qari, scholar, and researcher. A three-time national champion and world champion reciter, he has been recognized for his excellence in Qur’anic recitation at both national and international levels. Notably, in 2022, he won the Global Iqra' Qur'an Recitation Competition in Ontario, Canada, becoming the first Tanzanian-American to do so.
He holds a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Neuroscience and Behavior and a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Arabic Linguistics and Literature from Columbia University. Currently, he is pursuing a Master of Public Health (MPH) and a Doctor of Medicine (MD) at Columbia University and the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City. His formal training includes an ijazah in Qur’an recitation and Tajweed, as well as a diploma in Advanced Qur’anic Grammar from the University of Hassan II in Morocco. His research spans behavioral neuroscience, social psychology, Arabic linguistics, and Qur’anic sciences, with a portfolio of over 15 peer-reviewed publications, abstracts, and research projects.
